How It Works

The QN-12 works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, first described by Anderson and Parrish in 1983. The idea is simple: match the laser wavelength and pulse duration to the target so that pigment absorbs the energy while nearby tissue is largely spared.

Each pulse lasts only nanoseconds. In that instant the light is absorbed by pigment particles and ink, producing a rapid photoacoustic effect that shatters them into tiny fragments. Some fragments lift away from the skin surface; the rest are small enough for the body's phagocytes to engulf and clear through the lymphatic system over the following weeks.

Two wavelengths give the operator range. The 1064 nm beam penetrates more deeply and is suited to blue, black and green-blue pigment, while the 532 nm beam sits closer to the surface and is better absorbed by red tones.
